On a clear day, Denali fills the sky from Talkeetna, sixty miles away across the river. This day is planned around seeing it, with a backup plan for when the clouds win, because they often do.
Some families want to fly around the mountain. Talkeetna is where the flightseeing planes go from, and we'll help you choose a flight and fit it into the day. Others would rather keep their feet on the ground. Either way works.
The day
- A drive to the big viewpoints along the Parks Highway if the mountain is out
- The riverfront, where three rivers meet and the view opens up
- The ranger station where Denali climbers check in before their trip
- Lunch in town, then a flight for those who've booked one
- Ice cream and a walk down Main Street to finish
What to bring
- Layers and a rain jacket
- A camera, or a charged phone
- Patience with the clouds
